Visa and Exiting the Airport

Filed under: Travel to/from Ethiopia — by sackrosanct @

I decided to get my visa at the airport.  It was a very simple process.  There is a office/room off to the side.  You go in with the card you filled out on the airplane.  One of the agents/clerks takes your info.  Then you get sent to the other side of the room to pay your fee.  Then you go back to your original agent to have the visa applied to your passport.  Unfortunately, sometime between leaving the airplane and exiting the visa office, my Yellow Fever Vaccination certificate that I had in the back of my passport disappeared.  Errrgh.

I then went to change a little bit of money.  The booth is near the luggage carousel. The rate was 8.69 birr to the dollar.

When you are done, your baggage should just be coming out.  The bags were screened on the way out of the airport.  I don't know why.  Before going out the big glass doors, my bag claim tickets were checked against my luggage.  I fumbled a bit through my documents to find them.

When the big doors parted, a huge crowd of expectant faces was staring back at me.  I started the slow perusal to see if I could find someone who might be interested in picking me up.  (I just re-read my post.  Boy did that last sentence seem like it could apply to a singles bar or what?!) At the final turn of my head, I saw Tesfaye with an 8×11 sign with CHSFS printed in rainbow colors on it.  He, accompanied by another lady who had come back to pick up delayed bags, wheeled my bags out to the agency van and we were off!!
