Trip South - Accommodations
On Wednesday evening, we ended up looking for hotel accommodations in the area where our families lived because it was too late to drive back to Hossana and silly to drive there and come all the way back. We stopped at a couple hotels in town, but they didn’t have rooms available. Well, I take that back. They did have one room, but it only had a twin bed. I really like you, R, but not THAT much.
Eventually, we ended up in the town of Arboro (sp?) {Correction: The town was Alaba.}. The hotel/motel was sufficient. It was set up in a typical U-shape. It had a relatively comfortable bed with clean sheets and pillows, a mosquito net and a private bathroom with towel and a personalized bar of soap (it’s brand name was my first name). I got the bathroom that had a toilet (woo-hoo). The water was not heated, but it wasn’t so bad. I had to wash my hair 3 times to get the road dust out of it and I wasn’t greatly bothered by the water temp. I was bothered by the brownish of the soap suds! Yuck. The dirt was like Aqua-Net; it was in so thick.

The area seemed to be safe. It was quiet at night until the morning when I was wakened by the Orthodox Church music and truckers starting up their rigs.
Anyone used to staying at the Hilton might be uncomfortable with the place, but tent campers and RPCVs would have no problem.
The total cost for all 4 rooms was 105 birr. From what I’ve heard, the hotel in Hossana is nicer but much more expensive , about 100 birr per room.
